The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) created history on 18 April for the first time by running the metro on solar power.  DMRC operated the train on the Violet Line with solar power.  This train operated between Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium Metro Station to Central Secretariat.  In this, electricity taken from Rewa Solar Power Plant was used.

DMRC had signed an agreement to purchase 345 million units (MU) of electricity every year on an average in 2017 from Rewa Solar Power Plant in Madhya Pradesh.  DMRC will get Rs 2.97 per unit in the first year and Rs 3.30 after that. Electricity will continue to be available for 25 years at the rate of Rs.
