About the Author : Prem Chand

About the Author : Prem Chand whose real name was Dhanpat Rai Srivastava, was born on 31 July 1880 in Varanasi. He is a well-known Hindi novelist and a writer of short-stories. His writings depict the life of the poor and the downtrodden and their exploitation in society. He has attacked social evils, such as superstition, untouchability, casteism, religious bigotry and has highlighted the values of love, devotion, patriotism and sacrifice. 


Some of his famous short stories are Panch Parameshavar, Shatranj Ke Khiladi, Poes Ki Raat, Kafan, Namak Ka Daroga and novels are Gaban, Godan and Karmabhoomi. He died in 1936.
